A practice of deliberate attention. To hold space for emotion, movement, and quiet detail. To preserve a season as it was and document human connection as it unfolds.
noun
Black and white without distraction, brings attention to emotion, light, and connection. I’m drawn to monochrome for its ability to hold emotion and quiet detail. The movement of a hand, the weight of a glance, the texture of a season, these are the elements that stay with us. If I were loading film, it would almost always be black and white. I document what is already there, leaving room for discovery along the way.
I am a mother of three, and former teacher who has spent her whole life paying attention to life’s pauses and in-betweens. Long before I ever held a camera, I was flipping through my grandmother’s slides and my mom’s well-worn photo albums, noticing the way a single image could hold an entire season of life. When I was gifted my first camera at thirteen, I realized I wanted to hold onto what time would eventually try to carry away.
As a Saint Paul, Minnesota photographer documenting unscripted imagery centered on people and place, my work is rooted in observation. The quiet exchange between two people who know each other well. The rhythm of a space that holds history. This is the art of witnessing, simply being present enough to see what is already there and capturing the moment as it is. Photographs are documentation, they are records of a season. I work with natural light and real environments, letting what is already present take form. My editing is minimal and true to life, and black and white plays a significant role in my work.
Field Studies is a documentary series centered on people and place. Moving beyond traditional portraiture into observation and storytelling, this work is rooted in environmental portraiture and community-based documentary practice. It honors the land, the labor, and the lives lived within it, remaining thoughtful and immersive.
The everyday, held as it is. Whether in your home, outdoors, in a studio, or somewhere entirely your own, these sessions center the natural rhythm of your life. The rituals, the pauses, the small gestures that matter most. With gentle guidance when needed, space is made for the unscripted in-betweens.
The art of witnessing. A commitment documented with presence and restraint. These sessions are centered on connection and attentiveness, capturing the way two people move through a moment together. From quiet engagements to intimate weddings, this work honors devotion as it unfolds, unscripted and honest.
Beginnings hold a quiet weight. The waiting. The arrival. The threshold moments that mark the start of something new. These sessions are centered on presence and patience, allowing space for emotion to surface naturally. Whether stepping into motherhood or standing on the edge of adulthood, this is about honoring the shift.

"We had the absolute best experience working with Michail for our October courthouse ceremony! From start to finish, she was professional, communicative, and incredibly easy to work with. She made the entire process feel seamless and relaxed, and was very accommodating to our specific needs which meant so much on such an important day. The photos themselves are stunning. Everyone has been blown away by how striking they are, especially the way she captured the downtown Saint Paul architecture. Her knowledge of Saint Paul really helped with planning our day and schedule. We would absolutely recommend Michail to anyone looking for a talented, reliable photographer, and we can’t wait to work with her again in the future!"

"We had such a great experience working with Michail for our engagement photos. From the start, she made us feel comfortable and really took the time to get to know us and what we hoped to capture. She helped us come up with ideas that felt true to our story, and it showed in how natural the photos felt. Her communication was excellent from beginning to end, and the small personal touches, like delivering prints after the shoot, meant a lot to us. We love how our photos turned out and are so grateful for the care she put into the whole experience. We highly recommend Michail if you are looking for a photographer who is thoughtful and truly talented. We hope to work with her again in the near future!"

"I dont know if there are enough word combinations to describe what it is like to work with Michail. I wouldnt even call it work. She is such a kind, welcoming, accepting and supportive soul. I have not only photographed alongside her, but also have been her subject on a few occasions. When youre in front of her lense she makes you feel calm, confident and secure. She did a family shoot with us and our pup, and was there to document special moments between my grandma and I that I will cherish forever. She has such of gift of capture raw emotions through her camera in a way that is respectful and upholds the dignity of her subjects. I would highly recommend booking a session with her and getting the chance to experience her calming nature and the sunshine she brings."

"I was one of Michail’s first photoshoots. I have nothing but amazing things to say about her! At the time of my shoot, she was very much pregnant, but that didn’t stop her at all from climbing on fences / ducking under branches, etc. to take the best photos! She really is such an incredible person! She went above and beyond to create such amazing art, and I truly felt really beautiful and comfortable with her the entire time! I’m gonna post one of my favorite pictures because I still can’t get over how cool the art of it is. If you are in the fence about booking a session with Michail, jump off of the fence and just do it!! You won’t regret it!"

"We loved working with Michail! She made us feel incredibly comfortable throughout the entire process, which was especially important with me being camera shy and it being our first time taking professional photos together. Her suggestions for locations were spot-on, and she did great with guiding us through poses that felt natural. We love how the pictures turned out and would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a talented and personable photographer! Thanks again :)"

"Michail did our courthouse elopement. She was wonderful!! From start to finish - picking out photo spots near the location, setting up shots, making us feel comfortable, communication. And best of all, the pictures were amazing; I am an obsessive researcher, I looked at the top photographers in the twin cities area that were much more expensive, decided to go with Mikhail and I am so glad I did. The photos turned out amazing. She could charge more for her services can be totally justified. Totally grateful, wouldnt change a single thing about our experience."
